you can all just kiss off into the air
yesterday was the 8 HOUR MAKEOUT , and it was fucking stellar.

now, you may have no idea what i am talking about. so let me recap this whole sordid tale for you:

a few months back melissa called me while i was in the midst of manic essay writing. she said that she had woken up from a very sexy dream and, although she knew i was incredibly busy, could i at least spare 15 minutes for a quickie makeout? i said sure and she came over. we had a very fun 15 minute makeout/grope standing up in my room... right in front of the window. we both realized that people could see us and probably had and we thought that was really hot.

and from this started brewing an idea in my head.

i decided that i wanted to do a marathon makeout in my window for voyeurs on the street. i thought it would be funny and provocative and hot. make that hott with two t's cause it's extra hott. tt.

and then when we got drunk last monday all my blather about this 8 hour makeout project was put into action when tara borg was all "well, let's just do it" "okay" "when?" "um. friday?" "okay, friday"

so here was the deal:

we put posters up all down the drive on wednesday
then friday morning at 11:40am (what a random time) we started making out. then for the next 8 hours we ALWAYS had a couple making out in the window. We went across the street and wrote "8 hour makeout - look up" with arrows pointing towards our window to let people know and we posted signs in the window with the hour tally and "team makeout go team go!" written on them.

people would walk by, read it, look confused...

and then they'd look up.

and there we would be. going at it.

it was fucken rad. seriously. i haven't organized something this fun, funny and stupid in a long time.

tara and sarah do get props for some of the most enthusiastic and funny makeout antics (including some dry humping)

angus and i get the award for best soundtrack though: violent femmes and ac/dc all the way.

we really had an awesome party the whole day. i baked two cakes and we ate sushi and wine. we did crafts and played cribbage. we danced around. we put stupid signs up in the windows to amuse ourselves.

at one point though, we were really in hot water. for the first 4 hours we had quite a few volunteers to switch up with. but then there was a 2 hour lull in which it was just me, nathaniel and david in the house and we had to just keep switching between us. poor nathaniel actually got battle wounds on his face from stubble-burn! i was worried at that point and we were just dying for relief to show up!

still the antics were aplenty:

click the picture of nathaniel straddling david to view a sideways video of nathaniel eating vanilla frosting off of david's neck. it's really quite silly.

as for our audience, people were stopping all day long. we must have had hundreds of spectators over the 8 hours. people would yell up at the window, give us thumbs up, wave, dance, some couples even started making out for us to watch! also, there's a cafe with a patio right across the street from us and lots of people actually bought coffee and then sat on the patio to watch us for extended periods. i saw a few people stay for well over and hour.

the viewing area, as seen from our window. i like this shot because you can see the chalk in relation to the cafe (where most of our long term voyeurs hung out). we'd get people at the cafe hooting, hollering, talking to us when we came outside and generally being really cool. some people, i think, we're just waiting around for us to change the numbers on the hour tally and when we would we'd get a round of applause.

our very first spectators were a group of old italian men on the patio of cafe roma. melissa and i took the first (hour long!) shift and they loved us. they were laughing, gawking and hollering.

their shit grins were hilarious. i think they felt like they were getting free softcore lesbo porn.

and then we switched shift from meliss and i to

david and daniel (who, btw, were the winners of longest shift for a couple: i hour and 9 minutes)

let me tell you, the italian men just about freaked out! going from two lesbians to two gay men! HA! it was priceless. i couldn't contain my laughter.

this man in particular was pretty pissed off. he started swinging his umbrella around in big circles and screaming. then he called someone on his cell phone. i looked at david and daniel and said "do you think he's calling the cops?"

other great spectator moments of the day:
- seeing families pass by and parents point out the makeout to their kids.
- repeat offenders who would come back throughout the day (specifically the woman with the shopping cart)
- the guy who was eating ice cream but got completely caught up in the kissing and totally forgot about his icecream
- the phototakers. one person even had a video camera apparently.
- the guy at cafe roma screaming to me to "take yer shirt off!" and then demonstrated how for me by taking his own shirt off and flexing his muscles for me.

apparently we made quite an impression on the entire neighborhood. the dry cleaners underneath us were confused as to what was going on the entire day and talked to me about it for a while. when david went to get a bottle of wine at the liquor store the cashier, when he saw david, said excited "hi you! so what's going on up there? having a good time?!?"

and then, weirdest of all, a news crew shows up:

apparently someone on the street called them. they took footage of the street activites and the window from the outside and then asked to come up to film from the inside

the reporter looked like my room decor really freaked him out. but he was very nice and polite and asked me for an interview:

and me with dirty hair!
he asked me why we were doing this and i said "because we think it's funny"

best moment of the day: the last 30 minutes of the makeout. it just became a le tigre dance party mega makeout with 2 to 4 couples making out at all times and lots of dancing and yelling (both inside our flat and out on the street)

we were yelling out the window: "yeah! my jaw is numb!"

a big thanks to all the volunteers. Surprisingly, for all 8 hours we only had a total of 11 kissers! (this meant really LLLLLOOOOONNNNNGGGGG shifts)

the kissers:
david, daniel, melissa, leanne, tara, sarah, angus, rida, PAUL!, nathaniel and me.
some people only kissed for a little while, but some went the extra mile. i know that my tally for the end of the day was at least 4.5 or more hours of making out. i think david and nathaniels were both over 3 hours each too... maybe more.
and the 'support staff' who came to visit and chat and get us sushi:
kathleen, ricki, graham, jody (although jody did get some grope on in the window, but no kissing), kim, lyle and jeff.

ANOTHER TEAM MAKEOUT ENDEAVOR: WE'RE BRINGING BACK FIRST BASE!

That's so cool!!!

Bring back first base! If I lived in an area like that, I'd totally want to stage one myself. Hell, you can do it as a fundraiser!

you could definitely do it as a fundraiser.
but i think that it was funnier and more poignant for us to be able to say that we were just doing it because it was fun, funny and because making out is a lost art that needs to be brought back hardcore.

thanks for spreading the link. i'm interested to see if it'll go far enough that other people will do it.

there will be more team makeout madness that i am sure you will be able to get in on ms.bestwestern.

and i totally understand about not being able to attend. although it would be nice to place making out above making a living in one's list of priorities, i don't think it's generally the smart move.
